Contrary to popular belief Head gear WILL NOT prevent concussions. All it does is absorb
some of the impact. As an active player and former club coach, I can tell you that youth coaches
should spend more time teaching proper heading techniques.

A sobering observation. Go down and watch a weeks worth of coaching of your child's team. What is
absent :  proper heading drills.

The web is full of  drills that can be downloaded. You tube has tones of proper heading drills.
Better drills will show you the difference between lunging at the ball versus going up for the ball and
protecting  your space with your elbows. All heading should be accompanied by neck strengthing
exercises.

Players should never be pressured to heading the ball under any circumstances. They will do it when
they feel comfortable with proper coaching and experience.
